Vulfpeck: Thrill of the Arts
Like Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories and Mark Ronson’s Uptown Special, Vulfpeck’s Thrill of the Arts is a homage to a bygone era in funk and soul.
L.A.-via-Ann Arbor funk collective Vulfpeck, the so-called “half-Jewish post-geographic rhythm section” have amassed thousands of views of their self-produced videos which have accompanied nearly every track they’ve released. Each is grounded in Tim & Eric-esque absurdity and grotesquery, yet remain, like their influence, exceedingly watchable. Not only do these videos tend to show the group in action, they also lend a visual aid to the madness behind their post-modernist take on funk, soul and R&B.
